Obama "I Won't Stop Fighting For Gun Control"-GOP "We Wont Stop Fighting FOR CONSTITUTION!"

Surrounded by human props President Obama warned Congress yesterday that he would not stop fighting for gun control, Republicans answered firmly that they would not stop protecting the constitution.
Standing in front of a background of gun violence victim's relatives (and remembering what his friend Rahm Emanuel said about never letting a crisis go to waste) Obama suggested that America was forgetting the Newtown tragedy:
“The notion that two months or three months after something as horrific as what happened in Newtown happens and we’ve moved on to other things?” Mr. Obama said in remarks at the White House, surrounded by relatives and friends of victims of gun violence, including some from Newtown. “That’s not who we are. That’s not who we are. And I want to make sure every American is listening today.”
On the other hand GOP senators repeated their threat to filibuster "gun control" legislation in the Senate, and spoke out against the Obama's attack on the constitution:
Sen. Marco Rubio:
“We, the undersigned, intend to oppose any legislation that would infringe on the American people’s constitutional right to bear arms, or on their ability to exercise this right without being subjected to government surveillance,” he wrote in a statement on his website.
“The Second Amendment to the Constitution protects citizens’ right to self-defense. It speaks to history’s lesson that government cannot be in all places at all times, and history’s warning about the oppression of a government that tries.”
Rand Paul took his case to the Hannity show last night:
“I don’t begrudge any famous person like Mayor Bloomberg, or the President or the President’s family for having protection — I think they all should. There’s enough crazy people out there that would attack on the right or the left. But I think when you are being protected by people who have weapons by responsible people, I can’t see why you would be opposed to that for other people,”
He also said that he was willing to listen to the President's proposals if he could show how enacting them would prevent tragedies but so far nothing that's been proposed will prevent anything.
Earlier this week, GOP Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.), Mike Lee (Utah), and Ted Cruz (Texas) wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pledging to “oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.”
One might wonder why the President is expending so much good will on a bill seemingly going no where---heck even some Democrats do not want additional restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.
It might be that the Presidential push has little to do with gun control and lots to do with continued chipping away at the constitution. Remember, the is the President who said he wanted to remake America. Since he took office in 2009 via legislation and executive fiat, that is exactly what he has been doing--chomping at the edges of our freedoms endowed by our creator and remaking the United States in his image. Thankfully some in Congress seem to have the guts to fight it (let's hope they aren't too late).
