(RTTNews) - A court in Chicago indefinitely postponed Monday the detention hearing scheduled for Friday of Pakistan-born terror suspect David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, arrested by the FBI for plotting attacks in India and Denmark at the behest of Pakistan-based Islamic terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Announcing the deferment, U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois, said the detention and preliminary hearing for Headley that was scheduled for Friday in U.S. District Court in Chicago is canceled and will not be held (as scheduled). There is no new date and no further information available at this time.
Headley's hearing was scheduled before U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys. His lawyer John Theis was not available immediately for comment.
The Attorney's office further said the detention hearing for Tahawwur Hussain Rana, also in custody on similar terror charges, would proceed as per schedule Wednesday before Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan.
Rana and Headley, arrested by the FBI in October on charges of plotting terror attacks in Denmark and India, are also under investigation for possible links to the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai last year that killed 166 persons, including many foreigners and injured over 280 others.
