Honolulu Muslim Leader Accuses Radical Muslim of Two Local Attacks

A radicalized Hawaii Muslim has attempted two killings and will attempt more.  That is the word from leaders of Honolulu’s Muslim community.

In a sworn statement filed Tuesday with Honolulu’s First Circuit Court, Muslim Association of Hawaii (MAH) President Hakim Ouansafi says Jamal Morris has attempted to kill two people since May 11 and if released “will attempt to kill me and others that in his twisted mind justifies it as the next step in his mission to eliminate all disbelievers.”

The “disbeliever” Ouansafi--now Executive Director of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority--once conned the Hawaii legislature into celebrating Islam Day on September 11th in the Julian calendar.  But allegedly, Ouansafi is not radical enough for Morris.  According to Ouansafi’s sworn court statement, Morris believes:

"Talk doesn't work and doesn't get people's attention … only actual physical violence does that.”

"Violence will make my victims fear me if they live thru it."

"Both crimes are perfectly justified."

According to Ouansafi:

Jamal Morris tried to kill Musa Bangura, the treasurer of MAH, on Saturday May 11, 2013 at approximately 10:30 pm by pouring flammable liquid on his face and tried to use a lighter to set him on fire. Thankfully few people intervened and were able to forcefully stop Jamal from lighting Musa on fire. While trying to set Musa on fire, Jamal Morris called him a disbeliever that needs to die and that Jamal wants to kill him and burn him. Jamal Morris was arrested and later released on a $2000 bail.  News media reported that he was a no show to the court hearing.

On Wednesday May 15, 2013, Jamal Morris jumped bail and was no show in the court. Instead, Jamal went to The MAH offices and asked Masseh Ganjali, a community member, for a ride. While giving him ride, Jamal Morris violently attacked Masseh and tried to gauge (sic) his eye out while calling him a disbeliever and antichrist that deserves to die and be marked. Ganjali was transported to Queens Hospital Emergency Room. Jamal Morris was arrested again and is held on bail. It was later reported that Jamal was taken to Queens Hospital for mental health evaluation….

Jamal explained that wanting to set the first victim on fire and kill him because "Musa leads the prayers sometimes and knows the Quran by heart but yet Musa has girlfriend and plays the drums as an entertainer which makes him a hypocrite and a disbeliever that should be" killed/die/eliminated

Explaining why the second attack was justified, Jamal Morris said "attacking Masseh is because I want to gauge (sic) his eye out and mark Masseh for the word to know that he is the antichrist because the antichrist has only one eye ... I want to kill Masseh so that he will not be able to go back to Iran to get his army and come back and fight believers."

Jamal Morris Mugshots: L after failed fire attack, R after successful eye-gouging attack

Interviewed by a campus publication, Ganjali—a photographer honored by Pierre Omidyar’s Roshan Cultural Institute-- describes escaping by telling Morris he had been successful in gouging his eye out:

I continued to resist and then I realized, he wants my eye, that’s what he wants. I’m still trapped in the car and I started yelling, “I’m blind! I can’t see anything! I’m blind!” And he found joy in that.

He was shouting crazy things in the beginning and calling me an effing liar and calling me the antichrist. I didn’t know how to make sense of what he was saying. So when I told him I’m blind, he was happy. He was shouting, “Yeah, yeah, you’re effing blind! Ha, ha, ha!”

Morris’ defense lawyer is pushing an insanity plea, and some may foolishly assume that anyone who “finds joy” in an eye-gouge attack meets the legal definition of insanity.  But akamai readers will recognize that Morris' alleged choices of action and what seem like insane ramblings about the antichrist are drawn directly from the Hadith and the Koran.

The first legal test of insanity is the M’Naghten rule -- not knowing right from wrong.  But what if one’s religion teaches a different version of what is right?

For instance, Morris’ alleged choice to allegedly burn so-called “hypocrite” Musa Bangura echoes the Koran 4:145: “Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire - and never will you find for them a helper.”

Perhaps intending to demonstrate that verse does not apply, Ouansafi states that Bangura did find helpers: “Thankfully few people intervened and were able to forcefully stop Jamal from lighting Musa on fire.”

Morris’ alleged concern about the antichrist raising an army in Iran comes from Hadith - Muslim #7034

“Allah's Apostle  said: The Dajjal (antichrist) would be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan (Iran) wearing Persian shawls.”

And the eye-gouging and marking itself comes from multiple references including Hadith - Bukhari 9.245:

The Prophet  said, "No prophet was sent but that he warned his followers against the one-eyed liar (Ad-Dajjal). Beware! He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not so, and there will be written between his (Ad-Dajjal's) eyes (the word) Kafir (i.e., disbeliever)."

Ganjali tells his interviewer that nobody came to his aid during the attack:

“I just asked for help. I saw people driving by, I saw people walking by, I saw people riding their bicycles, and no one stopped.”

Ganjali is echoed in one of the 109 Koranic verses justifying war on disbelievers, Quran (3:56)explains:

"As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Attacks on prayer leaders are a recognized stage in the Islamic radicalization process.

The year before leaving the country to join jihadis in Afghanistan, future al-Qaeda’s spokesperson, Adam Gadahn was thrown out of his Mosque in Garden Grove, CA for assaulting the imam.

Three months before the Boston Marathon attacks, bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev was thrown out of his Mosque for interrupting prayers--attacking the imam for holding up Martin Luther King as an example for Muslims.  Then as now, mental illness was the thought of one witness: “'He’s crazy to me.. He had an anger inside.… I can’t explain what was in his mind.”

Will Hawaii’s soft-on-crime Judiciary allow an insanity plea to a Muslim claiming a religious justification for acts of violence or terrorism?

Who will protect Muslims from Islam?

Morris’ insanity hearing is June 6.
