URGENT ACTION REQUEST: Nafie Ali Nafie Not Welcome in America

This barbarian should not
be allowed in the country.

May 4, 2013

Dear friends of the persecuted,

Thank you so much for the condolence emails many of you sent me following the death of my father. They have been greatly appreciated.

The email below just came to me from our friend and partner in ministry Bill Andress of the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum. Please take a minute to read and respond.

The Obama Administration is preparing to roll out the red carpet for one of the butchers of Sudan responsible for the murder, torture and rape of a nation. Nafie Ali Nafie is Omar al Bashir's Heinrich Himmler. Welcoming him to the United States is a colossal mistake and gives legitimacy to this "Band of Butchers" in Khartoum.

Shame on our government for inviting terrorists to our country and being so insensitive towards the victims of genocide and persecution in Sudan!

Please let your voice be heard. And thank you for continuing to stand with the persecuted.

Sincerely,

Brad Phillips, President

Persecution Project Foundation

Dear Sudan Advocates:

The State Department is readying the proverbial red carpet for one of the leading architects and implementers of the genocide in Sudan, Nafie Ali Nafie.  The International Criminal Court named Nafie as among the key senior officials who were complicit in Sudan's President Omar al Bashir's crimes.  Please contact Secretary of State Kerry and encourage him to rescind his invitation immediately.  Click on the link that follows to take the action:

More information:
In a supreme example of insensitivity to the victims of genocide, torture, rape, and other crimes against humanity in Sudan,  the Obama Administration has invited President Omar al Bashir's primary deputy and advisor, Nafie ali Nafie, to the United States to participate in high level talks.  In addition to being insensitive, it is poor diplomacy, works counter to the best interests of the United States and the people of Sudan, and is in violation of U.S. law and the President's stated policy.

The appropriate comparison is with Heinrich Himmler, the Director of the SS in the Nazi regime. Would the United States have "invited" Himmler to meet at the State Department during the Holocaust to talk about "the humanitarian crises" within Germany, after he played a leading role in the genocide?  The question is absurd and thus must this action be so viewed.  This kind of meeting is an honor undeserving of anyone who has participated and is participating in genocide.

Nafie ali Nafie may be new to you.  President Bashir's principal advisor Nafie previously headed the feared National Intelligence and Security Service and established the policy of driving Darfurians of African culture from their homes and giving their land to Arabs.  This action fundamentally changes the demographics of Darfur.  Nafie's strategy is to drive the Africans out by bombing innocent civilians, treating Africans as sub-human, raping the women and girls, and starving the people to force them from their land.

Victims of Nafie now outside Sudan have been imprisoned and horribly tortured in Nafie-established "ghost houses" and speak of Nafie being present during their torture.  As has been noted, "His hands are bloody with crimes committed during the ethnic cleansing of Darfur, South Sudan and South Kordofan."

Indeed both the (1) policy, as stated by President Obama on April 23, 2012, and (2) our law as noted in a fact sheet issued by the White House on August 14, 2011, bar human rights violators - such as participants in genocide, torture, extra-judicial killings, or certain violations of religious freedom - from admission to the United States.

Being invited to the United States to a top level conference is a reward, reflects some level of tacit approval of the Bashir administration policies, and is against the law.  Should a meeting with Nafie Ali Nafie be absolutely necessary for American security, it must take place outside the United States and without the honor granted by being hosted at the US State Department.

Action Request:
Tell the Obama Administration to get smart.  Raise your voice to help insist that Nafie Ali Nafie and his colleagues stay home.  If engagement with the regime is necessary, it can take place at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum.  If you have not done so already, please contact Secretary of State Kerry and encourage him to rescind his invitation immediately.
