Join the Conservative Majority Fund Movement Hula dancers receive government handouts . . . . . . because Barack Obama unilaterally ended welfare reform. Dear Conservative Friend, Last week, Barack Obama gutted the federal work requirements that were the foundation of the welfare reform law last week, marking another unilateral policy change from a presidential administration that is moving our country away from constitutional government and toward a government-dependent entitlement society. Nevermind that the welfare reform law was very successful and represented one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades. In the four years after the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Law was enacted in 1996, the welfare caseload dropped by half, prompting a spike in employment and a decline in child poverty. The driving force behind this was the federal work standards contained in the welfare reform law that state governments were required to implement. Nevermind that a Rasmussen Reports poll shows that 83 percent of Americans support the work requirements that Obama gutted. Nevermind that this latest dictate is a continuation of a pattern from Barack Obama in which he autocratically rewrites legislation passed by Congress in order to impose his own political agenda. Obama’s gutting of the federal work requirements ends welfare reform as we know it, which will inevitably spawn a generation of welfare queens. Moreover, it reveals Obama’s hand and shows what he intends to accomplish if he wins re-election: Gradually, he will expand the role of government in the daily lives of American citizens through fundamental makeovers of our domestic social programs, training Americans to need the government as a source of financial, physical and emotional support. Barack Obama doesn’t believe in a limited government, and his economic policies are designed to infiltrate the ordinary lives of American citizens by creating a culture of dependency and entitlement. Before the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Law, welfare queens received government handouts for their slothfulness because state bureaucrats counted activities such as journaling, attending motivational seminars, hula dancing and bed rest as “work.” The federal work standards ensured that those receiving welfare aid were employed or at least looking for actual work. But now that those work requirements have been stripped from the law, “work” could mean anything . . . Barack Obama has effectively opened the door for a new generation of welfare queens to rise up, escape personal accountability and allow government assistance to become a lifestyle. So is it any wonder that prominent economists such as Nouriel Roubini – famed for predicting the 2008 economic crisis – are forecasting a double-dip recession to strike the United States? Barack Obama’s economic policies not only fail outrightly, they create disincentives to work and send the message that it’s OK to loaf on the couch and wait for their next check from the government. Barack Obama doesn’t believe in a limited government, and his economic policies are designed to infiltrate the ordinary lives of American citizens by creating a culture of dependency and entitlement. And in keeping with his pattern of executive power abuse over the past three and a half years, Barack Obama obliterated welfare reform without consulting Congress or the American people. I’ll let Orrin Hatch, the Republican Senator from Utah and the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, speak for me on this one: “This administration is unbelievable. Green-lighting new regulations to change bipartisan welfare reform without consultation from Congress is an outright abuse of the federal government’s system of checks and balances and an insult to American taxpayers.” In the 16 years since the creation of the welfare reform law, no administration has presumed it had the authority to waive the work requirements that were passed by Congress. Until now. Barack Obama doesn’t believe in a limited government, and his economic policies are designed to infiltrate the ordinary lives of American citizens by creating a culture of dependency and entitlement. As you contemplate the implications of Barack Obama’s decision to gut the federal work standards from the welfare reform law, I’ll leave you with Mitt Romney’s reaction: “The president’s action is completely misdirected. Work is a dignified endeavor, and the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.” With just three and a half months until Election Day, I hope you’ll join me now in opposing Barack Obama and electing someone who believes in putting Americans back to work. Sincerely,
Dennis Whitfield P.S. Even before his destruction of welfare reform and his recent “You didn’t build that” comment, Barack Obama lost his element of surprise. Our president has given us many indications in the past that his political philosophy is unabashedly influenced by the tenets of socialism. And although I didn’t flinch when he implied that our individual achievements are only made possible through government, I do shudder when I think of what he is capable of doing to our domestic social programs in the next four years if he wins re-election. So please – whether it’s $15, $25, $50, $100 or more – whatever you can afford to give today will help the Conservative Majority Fund fulfill its sole purpose: To make Barack Obama a one-term president. Your support is required to help us seize this important moment in American history and replace Barack Obama with someone who respects limited government and the democratic foundation our country was founded upon. Thank you in advance for whatever you give to advance our mission. |
