“We Republicans need to get the votes of the people who haven’t already decided they’re voting for Obama. We need the swing voters. Forty-seven percent of voters pay no income taxes, so they’re going to vote for Obama. Republicans are not going to get their vote, so we’re not going to try.” Does that offend you? Because it is the essence of what Mitt Romney said to a roomful of donors, replacing the word “Republican” with “I.” And it is either that we conservatives and Republicans are abnormal for not being as shocked and incensed about it as liberals and Democrats are, or that liberals and Democrats are feigning outrage in order to distract voters from the ongoing Middle East crisis that President Obama royally botched. I was paraphrasing Mitt Romney above for simplicity. Here is the exact quote:
These words were recorded in a video that was secretly being recorded as Romney spoke to a roomful of donors, and was picked up on Monday by the openly far-left publication Mother Jones. Any time liberals try to pull off the genius of Andrew Breitbart, they come out looking pathetic. Now, some things that are true can be reasonably felt to be offensive. Saying of the record-holder for World’s Fattest Man, “Wow, he’s so fat,” is not a very tactful observation and can come across as offensive, despite its being 100 percent accurate. What Mitt Romney said in the video is 100 percent accurate, but I’m failing to see how it can even be perceived as offensive. To get upset about it seems to me as silly as if I were to get upset at a Democrat for saying to me, “You’re not going to vote for Obama no matter what, so I’m not going to try to convince you.” I would wholeheartedly acknowledge the truth in his words: “You’re absolutely correct. Please don’t waste my time.” This is probably precisely what a roomful of donors wants to hear, too, that Mitt Romney isn’t going to waste their money trying to win over a group of people who would not vote for him even if he were the only candidate on the ballot. And this is what has liberals outraged, or, more accurately, pretending to be outraged. Meanwhile the other half of the world burns, Americans are being killed, and if you’re looking for the current President, he can be found at the nearest high-cost fundraiser.
