Patriot slas writes eloquently:
I maybe should keep my frigging mouth shut, but the day started with a burr under my saddle and maybe venting some would help. I've been reading the letters passing back and forth back-channel here and it strikes me that people get involved emotionally on only ONE thing and pass of on others. Of course, I'm speaking about Obama and the FIRST FRIGGING WEEK of the Second Coming…-wait Administration. I have alternately read about gun control, the Secretary of State, Women in Combat--and probably half a dozen other things I can't bring to mind at the moment.
The point here is that we conservatives are focusing on one issue at a time and at the expense of others. We ought to be more attuned to the broad front over which this Administration is moving. The fabric of our lives is being torn with a progressive assault on finance, manufacturing, education, as well as those aspects of our life that we have particular focus on. I end up feeling as if I've been rough shod, rode hard, and put away wet. THEY are winning because there is no comprehensive attack on Progressive ideas. We muck around the edges on peripheral issues with the BEST arguments and when they give in on something, we go back to sleep relaxed and content. They are not.
I have watched the left take over society and the media since the mid 60's and I am watching them run us to ground now. They have the pulpit, the position, and the pleasure to do so and we seem incapable of grasping the situation. No one gives the first shit about what we feel about gun control--it is a hot topic, but a non issue. Guns are ALREADY controlled and we react to the words "gun control" like a bull to a red cape. No one knows why, but the reaction is certain.
We are law-abiding citizens and we care about others and as my Dad would have said, "You've been FAKED out of the pattern" by the way they act. They don't listen, engage in public debate, report reality that threatens their beliefs, and they are bomb-throwing, eye poking people who would rather fight than switch. We expect rational argument, reasoned debate, truth to be absolute, and thoughts to be tested for soundness and reason. They don't--they want to WIN.
We should be spending time against their agenda and not their particular moves. We should be writing, screaming, protesting, and generally haranguing everyone we know--regardless of political leaning. We should be assaulting the High Moral Ground and we shouldn't be ceding ONE FUCKING piece of the pseudo morality they espouse. We are NOT on the attack--but when we do, we attack the wrong things--the cape and not the matador. We don't insult and we tend to respect position and people--they don't.
I have been reading the book "Jerusalem" and noted the concept of violence "way back then". The world is--demonstratively--LESS violent than it ever has been in history, People are more educated and worldly and that can be put to use for mankind or "society"--catch the difference? We ARE better as a people and there is vastly less NEED for social justice than there was in the past--and (I presume) vastly less need to progressive/intellectual thoughts and actions. We are at the 5% boundary and it is time to CONSOLIDATE and not go mucking CRAZY over that last few percent. We don't need to trash freedoms, restrict citizens, or make more laws--we need to be people and NOT give in to what is CLEARLY the tyranny of the Left.
An item, the term "marked men" referrers to a 17th/18th Century Ottoman leader (in Palestine) who cut off noses, ears, gouged out eyes etc to keep his people in court in line. There were great numbers of these people walking about and were known as marked men. As conservatives, we are marked men--for any of a number of traits and characteristics. Are we asking ourselves about where the social justice is in that? We've ceded the fight to the Left--they've identified us and they've marked us so before we open our mouths, the large majority of people presume to already know what we are about to say. They stop listening.
They used to BRAND the right palm of people who lied in the Plymouth Colony. The practice led to the raising of the right hand in the courts to swear the oath--a branded liar would be immediately recognized. The history of man is replete with atrocities that increasingly provoke our gag reflex today. I idly wonder if that wasn't attributable to a lack of media. That is to say, the strength of a leader wasn't in his ability to conquer, but to CONQUER. At a time when people were pretty much resolved to living a pretty uniform life one despot to another, there had to be a reason to rally the folks to your side or to warn people of the hazards or resisting. I would say BOTH are correct. It just wasn't going to help if no great atrocity stories came out of a good sacking. Today, the marking serves to drown out protest from the right--unless it is so whacked out and ridiculous that it is given press for that reason.
Well, leave us all just free-style the law based on our own perception of what we need in life. Just too bad for SOMEONE when the little 8 year old red head down the block gets taken away as a sex toy--why, they just NEEDED it man! If you believe that the law is designed (along with guns according to Danny Glover) to keep people enslaved, then back to the survival of the fittest because there is no justification for the law--no law, no master, no god, man! The Tea Party seems to say the same thing--except for law and master. The difference is that they don't seem to depend on the inherent goodness of man. I may be wrong.
As I read this, I don't know what the frigging point of it all is. I am not the time to revolt and I am committed to the rule of law. I suppose I need to devise my own plan to take back MY country and not admit there were ever any REAL problems with it--aside from the 5% problems--and that fixing those does not require or commit me to tearing down the whole structure to meet someone else's view of MY life.
They come in sheep's clothing. They will be as vicious as any Hun, Goth, Mongol, or Viking raider when they seize power. Sure, you can't believe that the trains "nach osten" are being readied. YOU are NOT pliable and you THINK. THEY can't have that. They trash the Catholic Church in history for running the world and telling people how to live. They trash the Nazis for rounding up people who don't think as they do. We are about to build our own concentration camps for people like us because we BELIEVE that they would never do that.
I should shut up. There will be no EB today. I speak at noon today on the CIA--A View From the Trenches. As it works out, Secretary Gates is scheduled to speak and a somewhat more impressive forum down in SW Florida in February, so I must stay aware of not spoiling his speech with mine. I'm quite sure he was never involved with some of the things I did--but then again, I never had to dodge politically motivated spear questions like he did. I'm glad to speak--it was a wild ride. I am going to have to gather some intrinsic pleasure from it because I won't say more than a bit about organization and writing. Then; there's the Q & A.
Well, to paraphrase/quote Pat Conroy "I wear the ring." That is an allusion to his not going in to the military after attending the Citadel, but being able to go back anyway--because he wore the ring. Keep the Faith
