Wonder of wonders, here's another I told you so. Yesterday, as many of you will remember, I wrote a Daily Rant titled "Editors and Producers: Masters of Agitp rop." In that Rant, I referenced the underhanded, dishonest practices of many editors and news producers and provided examples of same. I wrote how newspaper and magazine editors twist the news according to their version of truth -- not based purely on the facts as such. I wrote how television news producers color news programming to make events appear in a way that fits their philosophy.
Well, here is another example of just such a thing, and I argue that it was done with forethought and malice so as to achieve their goal of supporting whatever Obama wants. Here are a few of the headlines that I argue the editors knew to be untrue at the time they were published.
December 16, 2012, Erica Goode wrote a New York Times feature article titled "Rifle Used in Killings, America's Most Popular, Highlights Regulation Debate." A sub-title read "Lanza Used A Popular AR-15 Style Rifle In Newtown." December 17, 2012, Kevin Johnson wrote a feature article for USA Today titled, "Main Gun In Newtown Also Used In D.C. Sniper Shootings." December 19, 2012, Steve Almasy wrote a featured article for CNN.com titled "Newtown Shooter's Guns: What We Know." Almasy, allegedly quoting Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance, wrote, "the primary weapon used in the attack was a Bushmaster AR-15 assault-type weapon."
A senior editor had to sign off on those featured articles. That is the only way they make it into the paper. Both of those papers and CNN are routinely quoted and referenced in news programs, etc., and are viewed as the holy grail of news publications. If you recall, the mainstream media mocked Sarah Palin in 2008 because she didn't list the New York Times at the top of her reading list. But I digress.
The point I'm coming to is that now the truth, as many of us suspected from the beginning, is coming out. NBC and MSNBC have now reversed themselves and are publicly saying that the AR-15 rifle was not only not used, but are now told it was never taken out of Lanza's car.
I postulate that they were well aware of that shortly after the investigations got under way. Yet the editors and program producers allowed fallacious stories to be published and aired, claiming the AR-15 was the weapon used, and using said erroneous information to help Obama push his assault on the Second Amendment.
My question to you is this: "Do you think there is a snowball's chance in the desert that we would have these forced retractions if it were not for the new media, i.e., blogs and internet reporting? Their lies would have been swept under the carpet unless and until it was to their benefit to reveal same, just as CNN did with Eason Jordan's fallacious reporting about Iraq.
So tell me again, why would anyone interested in factual reporting trust editors and producers who have no qualms whatsoever about biased publishing and publishing falsehoods?
