Mark Durie's views on Islam, and how he came to develop them

Audio interview, I think around 1:20, by Elsa Schieder.  Very interesting!  Mark Durie is a linguist and theologian.  He explains a bit about his background, as part of his description as to how he came to be deeply involved in the study of, and education of the public about, Islam.  He talks about the Muslim culture in which he lived for awhile, about the fact that non-Muslims (and in particular the West) cannot come to grips with Islam until they have a firm grasp of Islam's world-view and also a clear understanding of religion (since the nowadays is predominantly secular and doesn't understand why it should be bothered).  He discusses the advances that Islam has made in the West, and in particular in the U.S.

Very informative and also absorbing.  This is the first interview in a series at

Per the e-mail below, one must go to the site in the e-mail to "sign up" for the series of interviews.  Note:  If you do choose to sign up, be advised that the page above takes a long time to present the audio-play bars.  Be patient.

In general the interviews will only remain available for 24 hours.  This week is an exception, because of the High Holy Days.

The line-up of speakers includes Robert Spencer, Bat Ye'or, Pamela Geller, and many more.  There's to be one each evening this week.

Tonight at 8 EST - the first interview - Personal Journeys Toward Difficult Truths

Monday, September 17, 2012 4:41 PM

Hello,

The teleseminar series starts tonight, 8 pm EST (New York time).

Here is the link for all the interviews - so keep this email or bookmark the page:

Tuesday to Friday, at 8 pm EST, a further interview will become available to you.

Who is first? Well, I'm actually still undecided. It's between Bill Warner and Mark Durie. You will see at 8 pm tonight.

I know who's on tomorrow: Raheel Raza. Thursday and Friday - once again, I'm still undecided. One day it will be Pamela Geller, and the other Fred Litwin.

This time only - as the interview series happens to be during the Jewish High Holidays - the interviews will stay available until Sunday midnight.

And now, all the best to all of us,

Elsa

PS. There will be a chance for a group discussion. It will be next week. I will send more information before the end of the interview series.
