America’s Slumbering Watchdog

America’s Slumbering Watchdog :: Politichicks

This past Thanksgiving, I did what I have done every Thanksgiving morning since I was a little girl– I woke up, walked downstairs, and turned on the television in anticipation for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Watching the parade is simply nostalgic to me.

However, I just happened to turn on the television when a news segment was airing on NBC about the latest conflict between Hamas and Israel. I was absolutely astounded how the network appeared to be “championing” around the Palestinians as if they were righteous and powerless against their evil aggressor, Israel.

Never mind the fact that the Palestinians had been launching rockets into Israel, killing innocent civilians, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child before Israel even began its aerial offensive to cripple the Hamas infrastructure, and to protect Israeli civilians from further rocket fire.

In reality, Israel is a tiny country the size of New Jersey surrounded by 22 hostile nations who are committed to destroying her. As David Kupelian, author of The Marketing of Evil writes:

“To regard the tiny Jewish state as the aggressor in the Arab-Israeli conflict, then, is delusional. It’s like putting a seven-year-old in the ring with a heavyweight boxer and seeing the adult as the underdog and the child as the bully.”

Kupelian continues:

“The Palestinian cause is a modern-day myth, broadcast and reinforced endlessly by the news media. The Palestinian State is the Trojan horse of the Arab world, designed to get inside Israel by way of deception and promises of peace. The Palestinian leadership does not want peace with Israel; it wants Israel.”

When 4-year-old Mahmoud Sadallah was killed by a Hamas rocket that fell short in Gaza (instead of its intended target, Israel), CNN called the boy “another victim of an [Israeli] airstrike.” Other newspapers also showed his photo as an example of the Palestinian civilians killed by Israel’s ongoing military campaign against militants in Gaza.

How quickly the boy was as a symbol of Israeli “aggression” toward the Palestinians.

Yet, the pregnant Israeli woman and her unborn child (who were killed by Palestinian rockets) were never mentioned as a symbol of the Palestinians’ “hate” toward Israel.  (For the record, the woman’s name was Mirah Sharf.)

The media also seems to have ignored the fact that Hamas has aired a “Death to Israel” music video the day after agreeing to a ceasefire.

Never mind the fact that less than one week after signing the cease-fire agreement, reports indicate Hamas was already ignoring the truce by smuggling Iranian weapons into Gaza. And never mind the fact that Hamas is also gaining support from its neighboring nation, Egypt. In fact, according to Breitbart TV, “Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie began calling for Palestinians to rise up and destroy Israel the day after the cease-fire with Hamas was signed.”

Yet, Israel is the aggressor, Mainstream Media?

“Why should we even care how the media reports on Israel, anyway?” one might ask. Well, because Israel is a nation much like the United States. She is the only Western democracy amongst many repressive, terror-supporting Islamic police states that are dedicated to her annihilation (as well as the destruction of the Western way of life, altogether). And, if the media perceives Israel as the aggressive bully, how do you think the press truly perceives the United States?

Benghazi:

Benghazi is certainly an atrocity the press seems to have chosen to slumber through this fall ……well, except for the hot and steamy sex scandal part. Even then, they had more interest in General Patraeus and his mistress than the fact that four Americans were killed, including our ambassador.

It’s no secret the media has been complicit in covering up the September 11th Libyan terrorist attack in order to ensure President Obama’s reelection on November 6th. The Obama “lapdogs” have been going right along with the administration, ignoring the fact(s) that: 1. Requests were sent for additional security (before the attack) in Benghazi, but were rejected by high-ranking officials. 2.The Obama administration had been given a three-day warning prior to the pre-planned, pre-calculated attack (by Libya’s interim President, Mohammed el-Megarif). 3. The White House had access to REAL TIME video (via drone) during the attack, but made no move to defend the consulate. 4.The White House blamed the attack on a you-tube video (for over two weeks) when they knew it had absolutely nothing to do with Benghazi.

Even Democratic strategist Pat Caddell, excoriated the mainstream media for their coverage of the Benghazi attack and what appears to be a cover up by the Obama administration. He even went so far as to call them the “enemy of the American people” in September. He’s absolutely right about that. Any media outlet that places politics ahead of the safety of American citizens–is a threat to our nation.

Egypt:

Unfortunately, the mainstream media also chose to ignore all the stern warnings during the Egyptian uprising in January of 2011. “Swept away” by the idea of the Arab Spring, the press touted the Egyptian protests as a “pro-democracy” movement without much thought as to whose hands Egypt would fall after the “ousting”of President Hosni Mubarak.

We all watched as thousands of anti-government protesters, some hurling rocks and climbing atop armored police trucks, clashed with police in the center of Cairo in a Tunisia-inspired demonstration demanding the end of Mubarak’s nearly 30-year reign.

The Egyptians certainly got what they wanted. After 18 days of massive public demonstrations, Mubarak’s reign had finally come to an end. We then got to watch the several hundred thousand Egyptians pouring into Tahrir Square, screaming for joy, waving Egyptian flags, blowing car horns, jumping up and down and chanting slogans such as: “Egypt is free,” “God is great,” “The people have brought down the regime.”

And, the mainstream media celebrated along with them, despite all the warnings that Egypt would likely fall into the hands of Islamic Extremists.

Granted, Mubarak was indeed a cruel dictator. One can’t blame the Egyptians for wanting to rid themselves of him, and the media for being jubilant for the Egyptian “freedom” movement. However, Mubarak did actually do two things right when he was in power. One, he outlawed the extremist Islamic organization, the Muslim Brotherhood and two, he kept them suppressed for years.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the barbaric organization dedicated to implementing oppressive Sharia Law across the entire globe. Under Sharia Law, women are actually treated far inferior to animals. A woman can be beaten and flogged for minor offenses, and legally killed by men in her family. Under Sharia Law, certain kinds of child molestation are even permitted. Under Sharia Law, there is even justification for killing infidels (those who do not adopt Islam as their religion). Sharia Law is a barbaric form of theocracy that is ultimately oppressive to all who are under its dark cloud.

Yet, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi somehow won Egypt’s presidential election this past June. Needless to say, just in the past week, Morsi made a power-grab that moved him toward a dictatorship. Sadly, instead of having the democracy many Egyptians desperately craved, they are actually right back where they started before the 2011 uprising. Only, their Secular dictator (Mubarak) was exchanged with a more extreme Islamic one.

Unfortunately, even the American mainstream media refers to these Islamic extremists as “moderate Islamists,” which is insanely reckless. Any organization (like the Muslim Brotherhood) that believes that I should be killed, simply because I don’t worship their prophet… is far from moderate.

Fast and Furious:

Another atrocity the press seemed to sleep right through– is Fast and Furious. If they did their job, more Americans would be better informed about this massive gun-walking scandal, and how the Obama administration allowed deadly weapons to get into the hands of dangerous Mexican drug cartels. If the media did its job, more Americans would be infuriated by the fact that the Fast and Furious debacle resulted in well over 300 deaths, including the death of U.S. border agent Brian Terry. If the press accurately reported, more Americans would be infuriated with the fact that Fast and Furious was actually the administration’s failed attempt to impede on their Second Amend rights. Sadly, America’s watchdog did not even bark about Fast and Furious.

2008 Economic Crisis:

In the 2008 economic crisis, we sat back and watched as many media reports blamed the greed of bankers, or “market failure,” or “deregulation,” as the reasons for the financial crisis. Yet, reports failed to mention the real causes of the inflated housing prices and the collapse of the financial institutions. In fact, the media largely ignored the three government policies that caused these things:

1. There was little mention of Congressman Barney Frank, and his ‘propping’ of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the quasi- government agencies that guaranteed that they would stand behind the loans to people who had no ability to repay them.

2. There was little mention of the government requirements imposed by Congress that banks make a certain percentage of their loans to people whose financial ability would not allow them to qualify for loans. Most Americans still do not know that banks were forced to do this by government policy, backed the threat of lawsuits and fines.

3. The media also failed to report the irresponsible policy of the Federal Reserve Board that kept interest rates so low that they encouraged millions of people to borrow much more than would be financially responsible in ordinary circumstances, thus leading to an excess amount of credit on the market and driving up housing prices year after year in a bubble that would eventually burst.

Unfortunately, our watchdog failed to give a balanced perspective during the 2008 economic crisis, just as it has failed to give balanced reporting on Israel, Benghazi, Egypt, Fast and Furious. And, these are just a few examples of the stories being misreported, if even reported at all by our media. In fact, it’s pretty sad when many of us now actually rely on media sources outside the U.S. to find out what is happening in our own nation.

Believe it or not, the press does have an incredibly important role in protecting this nation– by simply reporting facts to the American people. That’s why the First Amendment is so critical to “We the People”.

We need  free press so that people can freely criticize the government when it is straying from the Constitution. When the media does its job and alerts us of government wrongdoing, it is holding the government accountable for its actions. When our leaders begin to falter, their falters are to be addressed by the press so that Americans will know about it.

Unfortunately, our press seems to be preoccupied these days, too busy trying to make evil and corruption look attractive, while making the Constitution and biblical principles look so unfair, mean-spirited, and outdated.

The Hebrew prophet Isaiah stated, “His watchmen are blind; they are without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber (Isa. 56:10).

Because America’s watchdogs “cannot bark”- they sure have failed to call the Obama administration in to account over the past four years. It’s no wonder so many Americans lacked the information needed to make wise decisions about the November election, and about the direction our country is headed.

That’s why it’s up to you and me to do the barking. You and I are now the watchdogs appointed to guard our precious republic. It’s up to you and me to do our own homework, and to share our findings with one another. So, stay alert and keep barking, my fellow watchdog!
