THE imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, who has called for the annihilation of Jews, is scheduled to give the keynote address at the Australian Islamic Peace Conference in Melbourne this weekend. The attendance of Abdul Rahman al-Sudais will come despite calls from the Executive Council of Australian Jewry and several Christian groups for the imam to be denied entry to Australia. Sheik Sudais, who has called for violent jihad, has been denied entry to the US and Canada after describing Jews as "the scum of humanity" and "pigs and monkeys". The 53-year-old's name and face do not appear on the event leaflets, which were posted on the conference Facebook page on Sunday evening. Instead, they denote him as "Imam of Makkah" and show the Saudi in profile, with a cloth obstructing his facial features. READ MORE | ||
Libya's Grand Mufti Calls On Muslim Nation To Reject UN Document On Women's Rights,Issues Fatwa Posted: 11 Mar 2013 02:07 PM PDT Libya's supreme religious cleric is calling on Muslim nations to reject a United Nations document on women's rights, saying that it counters Islamic law. Mufti al-Sadiq al-Ghiryani issued a fatwa, or religious edict, against the document set to be signed by nations at the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women this month. While Islamic jurisprudence prefers witnesses for a divorce, the mufti says the U.N. document insists on judicial interference. The edict issued Monday criticizes the document's references to inheritance and its equating of men and women. Al-Ghiryani says this puts full burden on women to share equally in terms of domestic spending. The mufti also condemns the document's wording on sexual freedoms and the rights of children born out of wedlock.

Searches are continuing within the grounds of an Islamic school for girls as police investigate claims of sexual assault and false imprisonment. Police were informed at the weekend of an alleged incident involving "a small number of teenage girls" at Jamea Al Kauthar school in Lancaster last Tuesday. The report made on Saturday was said to have raised concerns over the welfare of the girls. Detectives executed a search warrant of the premises last night and also arrested three men at the site. A 40-year-old man from Bolton and a 30-year-old man from Blackburn are being interviewed on suspicion of sexual assault and false imprisonment. A 53-year-old man from Blackburn is being questioned on suspicion of false imprisonment.

One plan being discussed among Palestinian activists includes staging anti-U.S. demonstrations in Palestinian cities, particularly outside the place Obama is scheduled to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Activists in Ramallah said they would try to block the roads leading to the location of the Obama-Abbas meeting to protest against U.S. “bias in favor of Israel.” Some activists have even prepared American flags and portraits of Obama that would be set on fire in front of T.V. crews covering the visit. Palestinian activists say they are also hoping to humiliate Obama when and if he decides to visit the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Many Palestinians have already called on Obama to refrain from visiting the holy site, especially if he would be escorted by Israeli policemen and security officials. Members of Hizb al-Tahrir, a radical Islamist group, said this week that they would throw shoes at Obama and his entourage if they arrived at the Aqsa Mosque. Saudi Arabia could soon replace beheading with a sword by a firing squad when carrying out the death penalty in public. “A specialised committee made up of representatives from the ministries of interior, justice and health as well as the commissions of investigation and prosecution, the public security and the prison general directorate are looking into a study that replaces beheading by a firing squad,” sources told local Arabic daily Al Youm. However, the country’s area governors have already been given the right to resort to the firing squad, the sources said. “They can use their own discretion for the execution if the court does not specify how the capital punishment verdict is to be carried out,” the unidentified sources said. “Using the firing squad is not against Islam.”

It will cost the cash-strapped Greek government, which is cutting pay, raising taxes and slashed pensions for workers, pensioners and the poor, some 846,000 euros, about $1.1 million, to build an official mosque in Athens for the city’s Muslim population. The design, however, is slated to have a modern look and not that of Ottoman mosques with minarets, the newspaper Ta Nea reported, adding that all that’s needed for the project to begin for the Transportation Ministry to begin the bidding procedures for construction. The government agreed in September of 2012 to go ahead with the plans after an offer from the Turkish government to pay for it was rejected by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and opposed by the Muslim community which wanted the Greek state to undertake it.

Muslims students in the UK have been protesting against a new loan system that was implemented this academic year because it must be paid back with interest.
