Officials change story: Boston bombings suspect was unarmed

by Dr. Eowyn

Tamerlan & Dzhokhar TsarnaevThe Tsarnaev brothers: Tamerlan (l) and Dzhokhar (r)

A week ago, on April 19, 2013, at the end of a harrowing day of a city-wide lockdown and door-to-door searches by armed SWAT teams who ordered residents out at gunpoint, with their hands clasped behind their heads, the 32,000 citizens of Watertown, MA, were told that police had finally captured the remaining Boston bombings suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davies described a firefight between Tsarnaev and police officers which lasted for more than an hour, before the terror suspect was captured.

The New York Times also reported an M4 carbine rifle had been found in the boat in a house's backyard where Tsarnaev was hiding, and that officials recovered two handguns and a bb gun used by Dzhokhar and his older brother Tamerlan killed earlier that day.

Hidden: Authorities located bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev using infrared light, which lit up his body hiding under a tarp

Hideout: Dzhokhar was found hiding in this boat in Watertown on Friday following a massive manhunt

Apprehended: Dzhokhar is searched and given medical attention after he is found hiding on Friday eveningPolice search Dzhokhar after they captured him after a supposed hour-long firefight

But the Associated Press and Daily Mail report that those accounts are contradicted by two unnamed U.S. officials who, on April 24, 2013, told the AP that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was unarmed when police captured him and no gun was found in the boat.

Dozens of bullet holes were seen on the exterior of the boat in photos taken shortly after the final standoff in the Watertown backyard.
