DETROIT (WWJ) – Officials in Detroit are on alert after the bombings in Boston. Operators of the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit/Windsor tunnel declined to discuss security measures, but say they're closely following the bombings.

Tunnel President Neal Belitsky said in an email that "all staff are sensitive to the incident in Boston."

Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the city's Homeland Security office is "prepared to respond appropriately to any concerns as it relates to … Detroit."

These statements come just hours after several bombings Monday during the Boston Marathon held on 'Patriot's Day' in Massachusetts.

Jonathon White, terrorism expert at Grand Valley State University, said it's important not to jump to conclusions.

"It takes awhile to piece together these things, to find out exactly what happened," said White, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950.

"Anytime there's a public event, obviously, it's a target. And I would say, just let the facts come in … because we don't have a real picture right now. — very few people do," said White.
