Sequestration Causes White House to Increase Personal Vacations

Sequestration Causes White House to Increase Personal Vacations

Last week I reported that the Obama girls, ages 12 and 14 were spending spring break at the luxurious Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The first girls were seen clubbing at a nightclub that caters to pre-teens and teens.

Now we learn that the first spoiled brats jetted at taxpayer expense from the warm Bahamas to the snowy climate of Sun Valley, Idaho to spend the rest of the spring break skiing.

According to reports from a local Idaho news agency:

“Sun Valley is known to be a getaway for celebrities and the First Family is no different.”

“In an exclusive photo obtained by Idaho’s First News, you can see the First Daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama skiing at River Run Thursday. The Sun Valley Ski Patrol confirms the girls were enjoying the wonders of the mountain. We also received unconfirmed reports the daughters were staying at Thunder Spring in Sun Valley.”

In another move to show concern for America’s struggling economy and the devastating effects of the sequester budget cuts, Vice President Joe Biden is spending five days on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island. The barrier island, located about 15 miles south of Charleston, is famous for its expensive golf resort.

This in and of itself would not be an issue of concern, but this happens to be Biden’s third vacation this year. Many Americans can’t afford to take one vacation a year and yet Biden is on his third in as many months and we are the ones paying for it. Supposedly, Biden pays for some of his travel expenses, however, the use of Air Force Two, his staff and security are all paid for by taxpayers. Biden is not the most frugal VP. If you recall, he recently spent one night at the Hotel Intercontinental in Paris that cost taxpayers $585,000. However, he is less dangerous when he’s on vacation, which could be a plus for the rest of us.

However, it appears that President Obama is trying to make some sort of effort to cut spending. Saturday, he hit the golf course for the first time since the sequester took effect. Considering the fact that last July, he played his 100th round of golf since taking office, hearing that he went almost a month without putting a green seems incredible.

In the meantime, other federal workers are feeling the effects of Obama’s sequester by losing up to 20 days of pay through forced furloughs. Customs and Border Patrol agents will be spending a few extra days home, leaving our borders a little more vulnerable than they already are. A number of air traffic control towers will be closing, resulting in some lost jobs and possibly increased safety risks at smaller airports. Our military personnel are losing their tuition benefits and safety training. And let’s not forget the infamous White House tours that have been cancelled.

Yes, it sure is comforting to know that our president and vice president are doing their part in sacrificing for the sake of the sequestration, isn’t it?
