Restaurant Illustrates How You’ll Pay For Obamacare In More Ways Than You Know

A Los Angeles area restaurant is providing a perfect illustration of how Americans are footing the bill for the President’s healthcare overhaul by adding a 3 percent surcharge to every tab to fund its employees’ healthcare.

Walter Manske, the owner and chef at the popular République restaurant, said that the surcharge helps to pay for the Obamacare requirement which mandates that all small businesses with more than 50 full-time employees provide healthcare coverage.

“Everyone has the same policy that I do as the owners,” Manske said. “And we offer it to everyone; (the) dishwasher, busboy, waiters, across the board.”

The business owner said that costumers put off by the surcharge should simply deduct the amount that it tacks on to the bill from waiters’ tips.

“Even if this isn’t the perfect solution, it’s definitely a solution, and so far, there isn’t any other solution,” Manske said.
