As American Statists Work To Destroy Gun Rights, Embattled Ukrainian Citizens Demand A Version Of The Right To Bear Arms
February 25, 2014 by Sam Rolley
America’s Founders so understood the importance of the right to bear arms as a great equalizer between the political power structure and the general populace that they included the right in the 2nd Amendment to the supreme law of the land. Today, far removed from the bloody war for American independence, the sanctity of that right is lost on certain factions of the Nation’s population, and they are working overtime to destroy it. Meanwhile, some of Ukraine’s citizens, currently battling an oppressive government, are calling for a version of America’s 2nd Amendment to be added to their constitution.
According to some watchers of the violence unfolding in Ukraine, between 70 and 100 protestors were murdered in the past week by government thugs and snipers seeking to quell the rising tide of dissidence in the country.
And as the country’s disenfranchised masses continue to take to the streets in protest of government that fails to properly represent the will of the people, Ukrainian officials are likely to continue killing protestors with little threat of retribution from an armed populace. That’s because, according to Gunpolicy.org, long before the political unrest reached its climax in the country legislation was produced to require anyone who wished to own a firearm to “prove genuine reason to possess a firearm, for example, hunting, target shooting, collection, personal protection, security.”
Currently, the rate of private gun ownership in Ukraine (legal and illegal) is only about 6.6 firearms per 100 people. Compare that to the gun-loving United States’ 101.05 firearms per 100 people.
This week, the Ukrainian Gun Owners Association took the advice of America’s Founders and called for increased gun rights for the nation’s citizens.
The group announced via press release:
Today every citizen of Ukraine understands why our country has hundreds of thousands of policemen. Last illusions were crushed when riot police used rubber batons and boots at the Independence Square on peaceful citizens.
After such actions we realize that it is not enough to only adopt the Gun Law.
As of today Ukrainian Gun Owners Association will start to work on the preparation of amendments to the Constitution, which will provide an unconditional right for Ukrainian citizens to bear arms.
People should have the right to bear arms, which will be put in written into the Constitution.
Authorities should not and will not be stronger than its people!
Armed people are treated with respect!
As the United States’ political machine increasingly demonstrates a will to operate as an entity over the people, rather than for and by the people, during an era when populist revolt against bad governance is occurring with increasing frequency around the globe, is there any question about what’s truly behind American statists’ efforts to destroy gun rights?
Just ask a Ukrainian.
